THE
UMBRIAN MUG-September/October
1998
Greetings and Salutations!
Welcome to the eighth edition of the Umbrian Mug. This edition covers the months of September and October. If you know of a Duchy member who isn't getting the Umbrian Mug, please let me know so that I can rectify that situation.
As this is the final edition of the Newsletter of the DUCHY of Umbria, I want to congratulate all Umbrians on the elevation of our Duchy to KINGDOM! VIVAT!
We do command all our subjects, sovereigns and ministers to make sure the following writ is read in court at the next Crown event they attend:
Imperial Writ SIW-1 (amended)
Unto the Estates of the Adrian Empire and it's populace:
Hear now Our voice as we Speak, for it is Imperial:
Be it known throughout the lands of Adria that on this day the fourteenth of November in the Year nineteen hundred and ninety eight We do issued this most Lawful and Just Writ.
That no member of the Adrian Empire may gain more then one tourney win per month in the same list (ie. Knight's list combat) for the purpose of gaining rank in the knightly orders. The only exception to this rule shall be in the case of attending an Imperial Tournament in the same month as a Crown Tournament.
So Say We
Stefanus Imperator
Tsar of all the Adrias
This writ is in keeping with the current practice of the rolls ministry, which only credits an individual with one tourney win per knightly order per month.
Greetings unto the populace of Umbria,
As your Duc and Duchess our reign is at an end. That is the way of things and the way it should be. We have watched this region grow and give birth to a kingdom. It has been an experience neither of us will forget. It has been a reign of challenge. The time is now upon us to take responsibility for the Kingdom we have created.
As we retire we simply offer congratulations to each and every one who received awards or gained rank within the populace. You all have worked hard and you can be proud of your accomplishments. To those of you who are on there way to whatever goals you have set for yourselves we offer encouragement, even if you have not attained your goal just yet. Working toward an end is what makes regions grow. Without that growth comes stagnation.
We would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank you" to all of the ministers who have served faithfully during our reign. You are the people who keep this game moving. Without you tournaments would not happen, rolls would be lost, questions would go unanswered, heraldry would not get completed, there would be no Mug to keep us informed, crowns would not be guarded and there would be no one to put bandages on smacked knuckles. Again, to each and every minister, and their deputies, thank you.
Our hope is that Dame Roawyn and Sir Duriel will enjoy the year ahead. We wish them well. We offered our support at our Kingdom war and will continue to support them as the year progresses.
Remember that we engage in this game for fun. If we can all remember that we will reap exactly what we sew in this game we can make this the region that every other region tries to emulate.
In fond adieu we will always remain,
Lord Sir Angus
Lady Dame Diana
Last Duc and Duchess of Umbria
Event Reports!
The September Ducal Tourney was held on the 19th. We had both Combat and Arts Tourneys.
The Combat Tourney was run by Sir Cameron FitzCannon, our Minister of War & Joust.
The Knight's Renn List was won by Sir Frederick von Burg. This was the only Combat List.
The Ducal Prize for Most Entertaining Death was retained by Lord Sir Iain Duncan Mackintosh. And remember, this prize is only won if someone out-performs Lord Sir Iain in a Death Scene at a Ducal Tourney.
The Arts Tourney was won by Her Royal Grace, Lady Dame Diana, who received a Masterwork on the Knight's List for her Straw Hat. An Honorable Mention is awarded to Michael Sinestro, who received a perfect 30 for his Calligraphy, but not a Masterwork.
The October Ducal Tourney was held on the 18th, and some new faces were there for the battle.
The Knight's Renn List was won by a visitor, Squire Adon of the Empire of Chivalry and Steel. The Knight's Steel List was won by Sir Duriel Caliban van Hansard.
In the Arts Tourney, HRG Lady Dame Diana won the Knight's List with her entry of Monk's Robes.
Canton Tourney
As for the September Canton Tourney, which was held on the 2nd, it was a fine fight
The Knight's Renn List was won by Lord Sire Squire James the Red. (ME!)
There was an Arts Tourney, with the Master's List win going to Baroness Draconia DeVona and her Dress. Honorable mention goes to Sire Serene, who actually tied the Baroness; the Duchess played tie-breaker and felt the Baroness' entry was just a bit better.
The October Canton Tourney was held on the 7th. The Combat will not be reported, due to the fact that the information was not supplied in time for the printing of the Mug.
The Arts Tourney was reported, however, with the Knight's List win going to Sire Michael Sinestro, for his entry of Calligraphy.
WAR REPORT!!
The Kingdom Crown War was held on the 31st of October at Cactus Park. It was a fine day, with both Combat and the Arts running the whole day. We were graced with the appearance of the Emperor Jehan and the Heir Apparent, Prince Stefan, along with Lord Nigel and many other visitors. The outcome is well known - Sir Duriel Caliban van Hansard and Dame Roawyn O'Riley are the Heirs Apparent to the Throne of the Kingdom of Umbria. VIVAT!
The War was well fought, with much spirit on both sides. There were a record 71 Arts entries, and this just proves that Umbrians are serious about the Arts! J
As articles are written and submitted, more detail from the War will be published in the next issue of the Mug..
We honor all participants of the Events with a resounding Huzzah! And speaking of Huzzahs
The September Ducal Tourney Combat Winner: Sir Frederick von Burg in Knight's Renn. In the Arts Tourney, HRG Lady Dame Diana won. Honorable Mention to Michael Sinestro.
For the September Canton Tourney, Lord Sire Squire James the Red won the Knight's Renn. In the Arts Tourney, Baroness Draconia DeVona won, with Honorable Mention to Sire Serene.
The October Ducal Tourney Combat Winner: Squire Adon, of the Empire of Chivalry and Steel, in Knight's Renn. In the Arts Tourney, HRG Lady Dame Diana won.
For the October Canton Tourney, Sire Michael Sinestro won the Arts Tourney Knight's List with his Calligraphy entry.
Sir Duriel and Dame Roawyn, for their win in the Kingdom Crown War.
All of the participants of the Events and War!
